We raise a small herd of beef cattle on grass in our pastures and hay.
We practice Management Intensive Grazing - basically the herd is moved daily to fresh grass while being removed from the previous day's area. We've found this to be an excellent way to make the most of our pastures. We are in the pasture with the herd many times a day so it is labor intensive but a great way to farm.
We have in the past been raising only Scottish Highlander but are now in the process of downsizing the highlanders. We are replacing the herd with other breeds and crosses that we feel are better suited for our farm and grazing in NYS.
We do not feed any grain, corn silage or hay bailage to our beef herd.
This is 100% grassfed.
They are grazed spring until deep snow, then we supplement hay as needed. Calves are raised by their mothers on pasture. Their rate of growth is determined by nature, not artificial hormones. We rarely ever use antibiotics and only for life threatening incidents which has been rare (2 years ago for an eye injury) We rely on a healthy environment and good care for our animal's well being.
We are not subsidized by government programs of any source. Our prices reflect the true cost of raising the animals, for us receiving a living wage and the farm to be sustainable (also known as making a profit).
Grass fed beef is lean but still marbled, highly nutritious and full of flavor. Beef is processed at a small local USDA inspected facility. It is packaged in clear cryovac bags, labelled and frozen.
